I was vice president of my schools photography club in 10th grade. I started a non profit organization in 11th grade, and also founded a club at my school which I am the president of. I am a member of a national board for teens against animal abuse. I was a columnist on my old schools newspaper in 9th and 10th grade. I am also a member of Environmental Club and Interact Club (11 and 12 grade) and a tutor in our schools tutoring club. I’m in the national honor society, and have good letters of recommendation. I was a student ambassador in 9th and 10th grade. I have good community service- volunteering at a childrens hospital for a summer, doing national park clean ups, and tutoring ESL students.
I am a resident of North Carolina and here are the schools I am applying to:
- University of Tennessee, Knoxville (main campus)
- University of South Carolina, Columbia (main campus)
- NC State University
- UNC- Wilmington
- Appalachian State University
- George Washington University
took the SAT twice. My highest scores on each subject are
610-math
590-reading
650-writing
I am taking it once more in october
my overall GPA (at the end of junior year anyway) is a 3.3 unweighted, and a 3.8 weighted
Please tell me what my chances look like. I don’t want to get shot down by all these schools and not have a good back up. I’m sorry this was so long, but I need help!!!!! 10 points ![]()
I am planning on majoring in public relations/broadcast journalism, or international business.
These are all good choices and you have chosen good, challenging courses in high school. Your SAT scores look good but realize that the individual scores are not "picked and chosen" – they will choose only one set of scores obtained on one day, usually the most recent set.
I believe your chances are good for admission to one or more of these schools. It’s impossible to really answer your question because individual schools have their own processes. I do see that you followed up a D in algebra II with an A in AP pre-calc, which was very well done – you might emphasize that in your essays.
It looks to me like you want to stay in the southeast. Consider applying to one more high-quality institution in the region, like Florida State University.
